My Rest and My Trust – Mar 11

By: Jeremiah Arifin

In this day and age where circumstances demand our utmost immediate attention, we are easily caught in the invitation to take matters into our own hands and answer issues with our own might and strength. Before long, we grow weary, exhausted and feeling desperate without the situations getting any better than when they

first began.

This song tells us exactly what to do when we face this situation: to seek REST in the Lord and to put our TRUST in Him.

King David knew just how important it is to rest. Throughout his songs and prayers, he not only acknowledged Lord as the only source of rest; he also acknowledged that he needed to continually command his soul to find rest in the Lord.

“My soul finds rest in God alone, my salvation comes from him.” (Psalm 62:1)

“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.” (Psalm 62:5)

“Be at rest once more, O my soul.”

(Psalm 116:7a)

Just like our physical rest, a currency of time is required before our souls feel the effect of rest. We need to take time to constantly remind ourselves to be still and not to be rushed by anything when we are resting in Him.

As a currency of time is activated, we also initiate the element of trust. When we trust him, we end our attempts to help ourselves. We begin to seek, find and remain solely in his presence as we expectantly (and patiently) wait for the renewal of our strength to conquer and triumph over all our circumstances.

This song reminds us to once again “let go and let God”. When we let go of our human effort and release ourselves solely towards God’s mighty hand, He will become our hiding place and hide us under his wings as we continually soar with Him above the storms of life.

“By returning to the Lord and remain in Him you will find your deliverance. In quietness and trust you will uncover your strength.” adaptation of Isaiah 30: 15
