26 Mar When Depression Descends
What is Depression?
Depression isn’t just feeling sad. It’s very psycological and physical pressures; feeling fatigued in mind/body/soul, restless, unmotivated, & uninterested in life.
It is demonic power to destroy our faith and hope in God.
Penyebab DEPRESI
- Tabut PERJANJIAN TUHAN DIRAMPAS. Kehilangan kuasa penyertaan Tuhan dalam hidup kita. 1 SAMUEL 4 seluruh nya.
What should we DO when the darkness of spiritual depression descends into our lives?
Here are some directives draws from the Bible for you:
- SING
The psalmist sings to the Lord at night, pleading for his life.
Psalm 42:8 says, “By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.”
PSALM 42:1-11 + 1 SAMUEL 4:21-22: IKABOD, telah lenyap kemuliaan Allah.
- Untuk pemimpin biduan. Nyanyian pengajaran bani Korah.
Lagu 1: SERTI RUSA RINDU SUNGAIMU JIWAKU RINDU ENGKAU
KAULAH TUHAN HASRAT HATIKU KURINDU MENYEMBAHMU
ENGKAU KEKUATAN DAN PERISAIKU KEPADAMU ROHKU BERSERAH
KAULAH TUHAN HASRAT HATIKU KURINDU MENYEMBAHMU
This is not a song of jubilant hope. He doesn’t feel jubilant hope.
He is seeking jubilant hope.
This is a prayer song and pleading song — a song “to the God of my life”; that is, a song pleading for his life.
But isn’t it amazing that he is singing his prayer!
My guess is that this is where Psalm 42 came from.
This very psalm may be that nighttime prayer-song.
Lagu 2: YOU ARE MY HIDING PLACE,
YOU ALWAYS FILLS MY WITH PSALM OF DELIFERENCE
WHENEVER I AM AFRAID I WILL TRUST IN YOU
I WILL TRUST IN YOU, I WILL TRUST IN YOU
LET THE WEAK SAY I AM STRONG IN THE STRENGTH OF THE LORD
I WILL TRUST IN YOU
Not many of us can compose songs when we are discouraged and weeping day and night. That’s why a singable psalter is good to keep around — or a hymnbook with the whole array of emotions.
For example, HORATIO G. SPAFFORD wrote these verses to be sung:
Lagu 3:
IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL
- WHEN PEACE LIKE A RIVER, ATTENDETH MY WAY,
WHEN SORROWS LIKE SEA BILLOW ROLL,
WHATEVER MY LOT! THOU HAS TAUGHT ME TO SAY,
IT IS WELL, IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL
REFF: IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL,
IT IS WELL, IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL
- THOUGH SATAN SHOULD BUFFET, THOUGH TRIALS SHOULD COME.
LET THIS BLEST ASSURANCE CONTROL,
THAT CHRIST HATH REGARDED MY HELPLESS ESTATE,
AND HATH SHED HIS OWN BLOOD FOR MY SOUL
- MY SIN OH, THE BLISS OF THIS GLORIOUS THOUGHT!
MY SIN, NOT IN PART BUT THE WHOLE,
IS NAIL TO THE CROSS, AND I BEAR IT NO MORE,
PRAISE THE LORD, PRAISE THE LORD, OH MY SOUL!
The Psalter of old time contains these verses to be sung the way the psalmist of PSALM 42: 4 : “Air mataku menjadi makananku siang dan malam, karena sepanjang hari orang berkata kepadaku: “Di mana Allahmu?”
The SONG IN THE NIGHT:
Lagu 4: IN THE GARDEN
- I COME TO THE GARDEN ALONE, WHILE THE DEWS IS STILL ON THE ROSSES.
AND THE VOICE I HEAR FALLING ON MY EAR,
THE SON OF GOD DISCLOSURE
REFF: AND HE WALK WITH ME, AND HE TALK WITH ME
AND HE TELLS ME I AM HIS OWN
AND THE JOY HE SHARE AS WE TARRY THARE
NON OTHERS HAS EVER KNOW
HE SPEAK AT THE SOUND OF HIS VOICE
IS SO SWEET THE BIRD AS A SINGING
AND THE MELODY THAT HE GAVE TO ME
WITH IN MY HEART IS RINGING
These are not jubilant songs. But they are songs of faith. And they are shaped by thinking and feeling with God in the PSALM 42:5: ”
Lagu 5: HE TOUCH ME
SACLE BY A HEAVY BURDEN,
NEED THE LORD OF GIVE AND CHANGE,
THAN THE HAND OF JESUS TOUCH ME!
AND NOW I AM NO LONGER THE SAME
REFF: HE TOUCH ME, OOHHH HE TOUCH ME
AND OH THE JOY THAT FLOOG MY SOUL
SOMETHING HAPPEN, AND NOW I KNOW
HE TOUCH ME AND MAKE ME WHOLE
SINCE I MET THIS BLESSED SAVIOR
AND SINCE HE CLEANCE AND MADE ME HOPE
I NOW SEEK TO PRAISE HIM
I SHALL HAVE ETERNITY HOPE
In PSALM 42:6-8
Lagu 6: ONLY BELIVE
ONLY BELIEVE, ONLY BELIEVE,
ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE,
IF YOU ONLY BELIEVE
ONLY BELIEVE, ONLY BELIEVE,
ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE,
IF YOU ONLY BELIEVE
Verses: I MET GOD ONE MORNING, I AM SO FEELLING BAD
I HEAVY LADDEN, I FELT DROWNING
YOU LIFT ALL MY BURDEN, NOW I AM FELLING GLAD
ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE, IF YOU ONLY BELIEVE
I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE
All THINGS ARE POSSIBLE
IF I ONLY BELIEVE
Lagu 7: WITHOUT HIM
WITHOUT HIM, I COULD DO NOTHING
WITHOUT HIM, I SHOULD BE VAIN
WITHOUT HIM, I WOULD BE DRIFTING
LIKE A SHIP WITHOUT A SAIL
WITHOUT HIM, I WOULD BE DYING
WITHOUT HIM, I WILL ANSLAVE
WITHOUT HIM, LIVE WILL BE WORTHLESS
BUT WITH JESUS THANK GOD I AM SAVE
REFF: JESUS OH JESUS
DO YOU KNOW HIM TODAY
PLEASE DON’T TURN HIM AWAy
OOHH JESUS MY JESUS
WITHOUT HIM I LOST I WOULD BE
PSALM 42:10-12
Lagu 8: HOW GREAT THOUGH ART
- OH LORD MY GOD, WHEN I IN AWESOME WONDER
CONSIDER ALL THE WORLD THY HAND HAS MADE
- I SEE THE STAR I HEARBTHE ROLLING THUNDER
THY POWER THROUGH OUT THE UNIVERSE DISPLAY
- WHEN CHRIST SHALL COME, WITH SHOUT OF ACCLAMATION
AND TAKE ME HOME, WHAT JOY SHALL FILLS MY HAERT
- THAN I SHALL BOW IN HUMBLE ADORATION
AND THAN PROCLAIM, MY GOD HOW GREAT THOU ART
REFF: THAN SING MY SOUL, MY SAVIOR GOD TO THEE
HOW GREAT THOU ART, HOW GREAT THOU ART
- Preach
Next, the psalmist preaches to his own soul.
Verse 5: “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.”
O, how crucial this is in the fight of faith. We must learn to preach the truth to ourselves.
Listen to Lloyd-Jones take hold of this verse:
“Have you realized that most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself?”
Take those thoughts that come to you the moment you wake up in the morning.
You have not originated them, but they are talking to you.
They bring back the problems, failed, hurts of yesterday, etc.
Sometings and Somebody is talking.
Who is talking to you?
Your self is talking to you. Your circumstances are talking to you!
And the devil is talking to you!
Now this man’s treatment [in Psalm 42] was this:
Instead of allowing this self to talk to him, he starts talking to himself.
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul?” he asks.
His soul had been depressing him, crushing him. So he stands up and says, “Self, listen to me for a moment.
I will speak to you.”
On this side of the cross, we know the greatest ground for our hope: Jesus Christ crucified for our sins and triumphant over death. So the main thing we must learn is to preach or talk the gospel to ourselves:
Listen, self: If God is for you, who can be against you?
He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for you, how will he not also with him graciously give you all things? Who shall bring any charge against you as God’s elect?
It is God who justifies.
Who is to condemn?
Christ Jesus is the one who died — more than that, who was raised — who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for you.
Who shall separate you from the love of Christ? (Romans 8:31–35).
Romans 8:31-35
Lagu: SHOUT TO THE LORD
MY JESSUS, MY SAVIOR, LORD THERE IS NON LIKE YOU
ALL OF MY DAYS, I WANT TO PRAISE THE WONDER OF YOR
