GRACE & REDEMPTION – Jun 11

By Evie Tju

The popular acrostic defines “grace” as God’s Redemption At Christ’s Expense. It is what it is. Grace is not earned but given. It is free but not cheap – Someone gave up His life to redeem us.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23-24

This song starts with an acknowledgment that it is all by God’s grace that we can be saved and went on to describe the redemption that came with this amazing grace.

Redemption is made available to us when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. As a believer, we have been redeemed:

–          From the ways of this world (not biblical way of thinking and living)

–          From our past, sin, failures, addictions, bad habits

–          From sickness and diseases

–          From poverty, generational curses, etc

Jesus said in John 10:10b that “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly”. Jesus wants us to have the life that He intended us to have when He paid the price on that cross. And this is the good news — We have been redeemed and we don’t have to be held bondage by sin, addictions, sickness, diseases, stupidity, etc. Our chains are gone. We’ve been set free. There is FREEDOM!

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies. To all who mourn in Israel, He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for His own glory.” Isaiah 61:1-3
