She’s Worth It – June 13

By Dennis Harsono

Being in a relationship with her from the start has never been easy. When I first expressed my interest in pursuing her to be my girlfriend, she was hesitant. Sometimes I’d feel she was also interested in me, however often times I didn’t. It was if we were pulling kites, only I was the object that she was pulling. I pursued her for almost a year. Only later on our wedding day that I found out that she had given the key to her heart to God so that only the right man could one day enter.

We were always taught at church that before we start a relationship, we should ask for blessings from both parents and as the man I then have to ask her parents. This is not easy because talking to any parents is not a comfortable thing. I didn’t really understand the reason at first; only that it is the right thing to do. I can still vividly remember her parents saying that she is their precious, that dating is not a trial period but it’s a preparation phase before marriage, and that purity is a must.

Later through the journey of our relationship is when I get to understand that because of the parents’ blessings, I see her not merely as my girlfriend, but also a “Daddy’s girl”, that she is not yet mine.

There were often times where I wanted to kiss her on the lips but she resisted. She even refused my arms around her waist, and told me to put them around her shoulder instead. She indicated that this and holding hands are how she likes it best. It’s obvious to me that she knows her value and expects me to honor her this way. A kiss on her forehead and cheek when I walk her home makes it a perfect date.

She looked stunningly beautiful in her wedding gown. Everything was worth waiting for. I love her for who she is and through our dating I know that she is the woman I can trust my whole life with. I finally understand that what seems to be difficulties and boundaries are actually what make our marriage life. It’s not perfect, but it’s beautiful.

One day, I saw our baby daughter’s bib that says “Daddy’s Little Princess”. I said to myself that it is a must for the man who wants to take her out in the future to get both our blessings and to treat her like a princess. And my prayer is that she will grow to be like her mommy.

“The world cries for men who are strong – strong in conviction, strong to lead, to stand, to suffer. I pray that you will be that kind of man – glad that God made you a man, glad to shoulder the burden of manliness in a time when to do so will often bring contempt.” ~ Elisabeth Elliot
