20 Nov Christlikeness
God created us all human kind, starting with Adam in the perfect creation like the creator himself or GOD-LIKENESS
Genesis 1:26:
[26] Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Since Adam fallen into sin, all the generations human kinds became evil because living under the power of sin and rebellion to God
Genesis 6:5:
[5] The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
We are all human beings are already a sinful being since we are in our mother’s whom, and we know that as the generation’s sin
Apostle Paul wrote to people in Roma like this:
Romans 3:23:
[23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
This status has been changed by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross
ROMAN 3:24-26:
[24] and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
[25] whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.
[26] It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
God the Father had the redeeming process by sending His only son to shed His precious blood on the Cross in order to make us back His-likeness.
This redeeming process of our salvation has been preached by Peter after he filled by the Holy Spirit, Peter preached to the peoples in Jerusalem the same theme of redemption of human kind being God-likeness
Acts 2:37-39:
[37] Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
[38] And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
[39] For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
The promise to live in God-likeness will need our cooperation to the will of Holy Spirit.
Are you willing surrender your life under control by the Holy Spirit?
I. LIVING A LIFE EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
Our repentance and salvation is the result of the work of the Holy spirit, and also our godly living is make possible by the gift of the Holy Spirit in us
1 Corinthians 12:1-3:
[1] Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.
[2] You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led.
[3] Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.
Living a CHRISTLIKENESS is impossible with out the work of the Holy Spirit.
II. LIVING A LIFE ENGAGED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
1 Corinthians 6:19-20:
[19] Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
[20] for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
Be realise that our life is not ours anymore, Jesus has paid by His precious blood since we believe in Him, He is our Lord and King.
Starting that point of time, our body has been become the casing or the house or indwelling place of the Holy Spirit.
And the Holy Spirit will do His duty with His power to our lives compatible with His standard operation procedure (SOP).
A. DESIRE THE HOLY SPIRIT
Because the Holy Spirit is the spirit of the living God, He has His own desire, and His desire is only to brings us closer to God and to glorify God in every aspect of our life.
The Holy Spirit will give us His desires to do the word of God
John 7:37-39:
[37] On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.
[38] Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
[39] Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
THE DESIRE AND THE DESTINATION ARE BELONGS THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT WHAT THE HOLY SPIRIT WHISPER TO YOU!
Just like GPS working to guide us a direction to our destination, but we have to following it directions.
When we have taken wrong turn, the GPS will saying: recalculating the road.
Luke 11:9-13:
[9] And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
[10] For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
[11] What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent;
[12] or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
[13] If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
This is not the passage that will guarantee whatever you ask God and He will give to you, but this is speaking about through the work of the Holy Spirit in you than you will accomplish God’s will and God’s purpose for you.
B. DENOUNCE YOUR SINS
Since the Holy Spirit living in us, He will work in us, and His power give us the ability to reject the other powers that against the will of God for us
1 John 1:8-10:
[8] If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
[9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
[10] If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
We have to come to an agreement with the Holy Spirit, and to do whatever it takes in order to live according to the order of the word of God
Ephesians 4:25-32:
[25] Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.
[26] Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,
[27] and give no opportunity to the devil.
[28] Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.
[29] Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
[30] And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
[31] Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
[32] Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Things we need to do in order to become Christ-Likeness:
- Put away falsehood
- Speak the truth
- Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger
- Give no opportunity to the devil
- Let the thief no longer steal
- Let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands
- Have something to share with anyone in need.
- Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
- Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
- Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
- Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
C. DEVOTE YOURSELF TO THE GOD’S WORD
The word of God is the health food to nourish our spirit; do not let your spirit become weak, because when your spirit weakens at the same time the worldly stuff will grow stronger
Acts 2:42-43:
[42] And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
[43] And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.
D. DIE TO YOUR OWN AMBITIONS NOT TO THE AMBITION
Remember that you are no longer your own boss, we are servants to our lord Jesus, and our only duty is to do His Will and accomplish His purpose
Galatians 5:24-25
[24] And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
[25] If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
NOT YOUR OWN WILL THAT WILL BE DONE. BUT THE WILL OF GOD WILL BE DONE
Psalm 37:4:
[4] Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVING IN US, WE WILL HAVE THE DESIRES TO LIVE IN CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST
E. DETERMINE TO COMMIT TO THE HOLY SPIRIT’S DIRECTION
Romans 8:12-15:
[12] So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
[13] For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
[14] For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
[15] For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
F. DON’T QUITE, KEEP DOING YOUR LIFE
No matter how hard we doing our life, we will fail and doing many mistakes; do not quite and never give up. Wake up and repent, and do it again!
Philippians 2:12-13:
[12] Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,
[13] for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Amen.
