01 Apr He found us, we find love – Apr 12

“I only know this, that if He had not sought me out, I would never have come to Him.” — Charles H. Spurgeon
I remember the day when I bought my first mobile phone. For days, I tried with all that I can to protect it from getting scratched or dented, just because I want it to be perfect. Then one day, I dropped my new phone to the floor, and it was dented. For days, I could not stand the sight of the dent, until I thought to myself: ‘let’s just sell this one out, and buy a new one!’ Have you ever had that feeling?
Did you know why God did not just do that to humankind? I mean, it was only two of them anyway when they first chose to sin and rebel against Him. He could have just wiped the slate clean and start over again. But then, to eliminate sin completely from this world means He had to terminate the creation that He so loved, for no one was without sin. There was this dilemma between the humanity that He so loved and the sin that He so hated. But then, He chose us.
The Cross is the ultimate evidence of God’s relentless love towards humanity. He went hip high into the mess, in order to pull us back into His arms. We were never on our way back to God, but God came down into the mess to seek us out. Why? Because we are His joy (Hebrew 12:2), and His treasured possession (Exodus 19:5). Are you aware of this love? That there is this relentless God who had been through pain and death just to win your heart and mine? This song is simply a raw expression of a heart that was surprised by this revelation. A heart that was finally captured by this love that is so strong like a tree bending beneath the weight of a hurricane of affection and mercy. A heart that was sinking in the ocean of this undeserving grace, and it all it can say is “O, how He loves us”.
“See, what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called the children of God… “(1 John 3:1)
