01 Apr Got redundant? Oh no! – Apr 15
By Ebnu Wiyono
Few years ago, by the grace of God, I managed to be employed by one of the largest chartered companies. I had a limited experience, however, I got employed! It was like a dream comes true. After two years working there, I received a surprise from the company. It was not a promotion, nor a salary increase. No, rather, it was a redundancy letter. The company had not been performing well and had to go through a big restructure. Unfortunately, my team was one of many teams that got redundant.
There aren’t many people who expect to be made redundant. It usually comes as a shock and shatters a person’s confidence. Dealing with redundancy is tough. Fear thoughts might start to attack your mind of
“What if I can’t get another job?”
“What am I going to do for the next months without income?”
“Will I ever have enough security for my future plans?”
Then, what do we have to do when dealing with redundancy? Que sera, sera? No! What we need to do is: keep calm and think positively.
Keep calm
“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” Isaiah 41:10
Just to remember that when you hear the news, it’s the position being made redundant not yourself. Acceptance is really important. Be careful about taking it personally, it happens to the most junior staff up to the CEOs of the most reputable companies. Understand it’s natural to feel shocked and disheartened. So, remember that when God allows something to happen in your life, He planned it for His own glory and your own goodness. It sounds easy to say, however it is the fact. He planned it and He meant it good. Pray and ask for His guidance. Always believe that when He closes a door, He will open another door. Redundancy might means that your time in the current place has finished, and it’s time to move forward. Keep calm, as our future is secure in God.
Think Positively
“He has made everything beautiful in its time.
He has also set eternity in the human heart;
yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11
As I mentioned above, God has our whole life in His hands and it will be fine! God never promised our life’s journey to be like highway all the time. Even some time you find traffic in the highway. However, what He promise is that He will always be with us in every situation. He will give us the courage. He will make sure we reach our destination, a green land pasture where we can feel peace and content.
For me, now I know that God allowed redundancy to happen for opportunity to reinvent myself, so that I can be better at my career. I am now working in the role that I have been wanting to have and I am happy with it. If the redundancy did not happen, I might not be here now. So whatever working condition you have, enjoy the ride and believe that He has conquered every problem when He rose from the death. He has perfect plan for you and me and it is beautiful.
