Are we there yet? – May 13

By Yosia Yusuf

There is one universal question that everyone always asked on a road trip: “are we there yet?” In fact, all of us who asked the question know that we were not there yet.  The fact that we were still in vehicle speak for itself. But that’s not the point. The point is we have done everything we can do and we know what to do in the middle of the trip till we reached a point that we don’t know what else to do and asked the question. Lots of times we asked God the same question. We know that we are not there yet but we don’t know what else to do and we have done everything we can think of.

There is a story in the gospel of Mark where the twelve disciples of Jesus are on the boat trying to get to the other side. In the middle of their journey, they faced a storm, large enough to make them fear for their life. We are never told exactly how long the disciples are straining but what we do know is that none of them jump off the ship. They are afraid, anxious, worried and fearful but they do not give up!

The story end with Jesus coming into the boat, calm the storm and they get to the other side. So why didn’t Jesus do that from the beginning? Why did He allow the storm to hit the boat in the first place? Why don’t Jesus just teleport us from one side to the other without any storm? These are the questions that come to my mind as I read this story. But for those who are already on the other side, I don’t think these questions will bother them. Because the hardship they faced on their journey will not compare to the greatness of experiencing the presence of One who calm the storm at the sound of His voice. When you get to the other side, you will remember your journey and you will remember how in these times you fall in love with Jesus.

So what are we going to do in mean time? Stay on course! Don’t give up.

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” – Galatians 6:9
