Get Ready for a High Distinction! – Feb 11

By Marta Untariady

At most time, the beginning of semester is the most exciting moment where most of us make a new resolution “I’m going to get a distinction for ACCG310 or I won’t fail again this semester or I will study harder”, and the list goes on…

Yet, how many of us could actually fulfill these statements? Here are few tips to hold on to those resolutions:

1. Purpose

Know the reasons why we study and what are the benefits for our future. Remember that nothing happens coincidentally, it is for a reason at a season.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” Ecclesiastes 3:1

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” Romans 8:28

Know the prize of the race (purpose) will help to endure the boredom or the hard time.

2. Planning

A cliché states, “When we fail to plan, we plan to fail”. This semester – stop going with the flow and start to get organised! Set long-term goals (e.g. to get High Distinction) and short-term goals (day to day basis).

Long-term goals would help us determine the level of effort needed on the journey. Short-term goals are important to keep on track and not wasting time. Grab a diary to put specific time for study, for refreshing and socializing, exercise, and all possible activities.

3. Do the plan and love what you are doing!

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” Colossians 3:23.

It is very true that sometimes it is hard when we have to study certain subjects we do not like just because our parents ask us to do so or just to get a Permanent Resident in Australia. Yet, back to point number 1, know that no matter what, as long as we believe in God’s particular promise and do our study heartily as to Him, God will make everything work for our goodness. So all we have to do is do our best and He will do the rest.

After all, no one is excited about something forever. There’s a time of up and down. However, the formula of loving what we do is as simple as having a commitment to always give our best shot.
