Stay or Move – Sept 12

By Ebnu Wiyono

There are some people I know who keep changing jobs from one to another. There are many reasons why people change their jobs, e.g. they want more money, they have been treated unfairly, they have conflicts with the boss or they want to get a better job. Sadly, most of us change our job because we simply want to earn better money instead of following where God wants us to be. The reality is we need to be where God wants us to be.

Long before I worked in my current company, I somehow knew that God would put me in this company. God revealed this revelation when I was in university. I did not believe much of it because I knew that this is a big company and it is not easy to get a job there, yet I really wanted to work there if I could. So, I tried to apply for a job in this company even though I was still working for another company at that time. Amazingly, after 3 months I applied for the role, I got a call from them asking me for an interview! I even forgot what position I applied for and what the job role was. In the end, by the grace of God, I got the job.

How do we know where God wants us to be? There are no exact steps. However, from my experience, I can share a few things:

1. Pray. Start everything in prayer. Ask God where He wants you to be.

Some of us were born with particular skills and potential. When we develop it, it might turn into a hobby. And this hobby might or might not be something that God wants to utilize in our life. God can lead you to the area where it looks like a desert at first, but it may turn out to be an oasis in the end.

2. Have faith and turn it into actions.

Though I was not sure that God would put me in this company, I still applied for the job. If God has said something and put the conviction in your heart, do not try to argue with Him. Just believe and do as He said. You will be amazed to know that He is a faithful God who always fulfills everything He said He will do.

3. Lastly, if you got it, stay faithful.

Some of us maybe underpaid or may have conflicts with our boss. But they are not the main reasons why we should start looking for another job. The only reason why we should move is when God tells us, which means that our time there is up and it is time for another season. But if God does not say anything, do our best in our job and believe that there is a greater cause behind all the bad things that make us want to quit. The most important thing in everything we do is to glorify the name of Jesus.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” 1 Corinthians 10:31
