Homosexuals, COME!

by Yosia Yusuf

Dear homosexuals,

I love you. I do not mean I love you in a sensual way, but I have a special place in my heart for you. However, there were times that I was judgmental toward you and made fun of you through inappropriate jokes. And for that, I want to apologise. We did not respect you and failed being a true witness of Christ’s love for you.

I’m sorry I failed to notice that some of you are struggling. Some of you have been struggling with homosexual desire for a very long time. But you are not able to seek help because you are afraid you’ll be make fun of. So you fight those desire yourself and finding yourself consistently on the edge, desperate for help. But no one is there to offer their hand to you. I’m guilty as charged.

I’m sorry I failed to understand the nature of your struggle. I assumed it was nothing but foolishness. I boasted in my ‘manliness’ and saw your struggle as a form of weakness. I assumed you could quit whenever you wanted to but you were just too dumb to do so. I made fun of your sexual struggle while I was overwhelmed with sexual struggle of my own. I did not see how the two struggles were the same. I viewed my sexual struggle as a common issue and yours as disgusting simply because I am a heterosexual. Please forgive my self-righteousness and idiocracy.

By God’s abundant grace, he opened my eyes to see the wickedness of my heart. I realised that I’m no better than you. I’m a sinner in a desperate need of God’s grace. And so are you. If you are struggling with homosexuals’ desire, Christ knows! He not only knows, he wants to tell you that he died for your sin. If you trust in Jesus, God the Father at this moment sees you as holy and righteous. Not because you don’t have that desire anymore, but simply because the cross of the perfect Son has paid the price for you. Your identity is now hidden in Christ and when God sees you, he sees Christ’s perfect righteousness in you. So stop hiding. Don’t be ashamed of your struggle. Come to the light and let the light exposes the dark spot of your heart. You won’t be able to win the battle on your own. But God has ordained it for us to walk through it together. I cannot guarantee that you will totally be freed of your desire nor can I guarantee that all will be well. But one thing I do know, if you are in Christ, you are my brothers and sisters. And I’ll do anything I can to love you and walk this journey with you. You are not alone.

But for my friends who think that it is okay to live pursuing your homosexual desire, I love you enough to tell you that the path that you are on will lead to eternal damnation. Homosexuality is not an unpardonable sin but it is still a sin. And for those who lives in sin, the wrath of God is coming for you. And this applied to every kind of sins. “Do not be deceived; neither the sexual immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”[1]

However, this does not need to be your end. The invitation of Jesus is to repent and come to him. He loves you and he died for you. Put your trust in him today and receive his righteousness.

“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”[2]
